The associations Chios Running, Omicron, and Friends of Chios Trails, in collaboration with the Municipality of Chios through the European program MUSICA, joined forces and invited the island’s students to experience green adventures in nature, play, cooperate, and take action to protect the environment as active citizens.

The nature of Chios welcomed kindergarten and primary school students to the small river of the Galatous stream. There, two types of dams (water and mountain dams), a short trail rich in flora and fauna, environmental games about renewable energy sources, Omicron’s small but highly important plant nursery, and their fire engines won the students’ hearts. Nature, acting as the best teacher, helped the children understand the consequences of climate change—focusing on last summer’s devastating wildfires—and how an active citizen can contribute to its rebirth.

The children participated in all activities with a vitality and enthusiasm that they passed on to teachers and parents, adding a special touch to the entire initiative. This warm response prompted schools that did not manage to participate in time to sign up so they would not miss the opportunity. As a result, the initiative was extended for a few more days.

The organizations express their warm thanks to all participants and look forward to their next joint initiatives focusing on the environment and the younger generation.
