ECO Bridges: Successful Completion of the Environmental Education Programme under MUSICA

This spring, the “Petros Tripolitis” Volunteer Park in Chios hosted a special environmental program for children aged 4–12.
The associations Chios Running, Omicron, and Friends of Chios Trails, in collaboration with the Municipality of Chios through the European program MUSICA, joined forces and invited the island’s students to experience green adventures in nature, play, cooperate, and take action to protect the environment as active citizens.
The nature of Chios welcomed kindergarten and primary school students to the small river of the Galatous stream. There, two types of dams (water and mountain dams), a short trail rich in flora and fauna, environmental games about renewable energy sources, Omicron’s small but highly important plant nursery, and their fire engines won the students’ hearts. Nature, acting as the best teacher, helped the children understand the consequences of climate change—focusing on last summer’s devastating wildfires—and how an active citizen can contribute to its rebirth.
The children participated in all activities with a vitality and enthusiasm that they passed on to teachers and parents, adding a special touch to the entire initiative. This warm response prompted schools that did not manage to participate in time to sign up so they would not miss the opportunity. As a result, the initiative was extended for a few more days.
The organizations express their warm thanks to all participants and look forward to their next joint initiatives focusing on the environment and the younger generation.
The students created a fairy tale about their green adventures, which we will present to you on World Environment Day. Stay tuned!

MUSICA IN ECOBRIDGES: Green Adventures

By vasso papadopoulou on March 11, 2026 in Events, MUSICA News Articles, Other News Articles, Press Release

Next week (2/3 to 9/3/2026) The Chios Running, Omicron and Friends of Chios Trails clubs and the Municipality of Chios with the MUSICA program are organizing an Environmental program within the framework of active citizen actions, which will take place at the Omicron Volunteer Park “Petros Tripolitis”.

Goal “Life on land”

3 clubs and the Municipality of Chios join forces and invite the students of Chios to build eco-bridges with them through green adventures, which they will experience during nature protection missions!

Mission 1: Rescue in the Burning Forest

Educational program for children aged 4-12

Purpose: To strengthen children’s connection with nature and to cultivate ecological awareness through experiential games, cooperation and action, so that the students themselves, in turn, can raise awareness of the school and the wider community on issues related to the protection of nature and the response to fires, supporting the importance of active participation in social issues.

Activity 1: Transformations

Objectives: Introduction to nature and understanding of the concept of the ecosystem.

Children, having their rich imagination as magic gold dust and imitation cards as assistants, transform into forest organisms, living and non-living, with the aim of forming “A Forest”, playing an environmental game.
They are divided into 2 groups and discover what each organism can offer to the forest.
They form a network of life and understand the interaction – connection between the organisms of the ecosystem.

Activity 2: Crossing the burned forest

Objectives: Understanding what happens when a fire threatens to destroy a forest and taking active action to save it.

Storytelling “The fire in the forest of Chrysos Lagadi”
In this story, children learn about the adventure of a little hare when a fire suddenly breaks out in his forest. They are then asked to rescue him by playing a movement game, through an obstacle course.
Will they manage to become “guardians of the forest” and save the little white bunny, transporting him to a safe haven?
Burning branches, burnt leaves and earth, smoke on the path, a river next to the forest, the rescue point and the return to the shelter are the action points that have been set up and are waiting for the “guardians of the forest” to cross them.

What happens when a fire threatens the forest? How can we help? What is the role of each person in such a group mission?

These and many other questions will arise and will be collectively discussed.

Activity 3: “The guards of the forest” become creators

Objectives: Spreading the message of forest protection

After the successful rescue mission, each child or group receives the title “Forest Guard”.

Now they have an important mission: To spread the message of forest protection to other children and adults!
We encourage children to use drawings, leaves or natural materials to create signs or posters with slogans, images and small messages e.g. “Don’t throw garbage in the forest”, “Fire kills animals – be careful!” “Take care of the forest, you take care of your future”

Activity 4: “The little researchers”

Objectives: Introduction to renewable energy sources

We encourage children to use renewable energy sources to provide electricity to the neighboring island of Oinousses, just like the MUSICA program (https://www.chios.gov.gr/musica). Children discover environmentally friendly solutions to improve the everyday lives of young and old!

Presentation campaign:
At the end, all the posters are collected from all the schools and become part of a forest protection campaign, where students take on the roles of active citizens!

The “ecobridges to green adventures” are coordinated by the associations:
Chios Running, Omikron, Friends of Chios Trails and the Municipality of Chios with the MUSICA program
