First Public Engagement Workshop with the island communities of Chios and Oinousses
, in Chios
Most remote islands face frequent blackouts and electricity shortages, as well as a lack of fresh water. The island of Oinousses in Greece’s North Aegean region is no exception.
MUSICA partners are working to develop a one-stop solution in a Multi-Use Platform, which will produce electricity and freshwater using renewable power from the wind and waves.
The platform will also include solar panels that will supply electricity to the platform itself, as well as a fish farming platform, and a water desalination system that will provide the island with sufficient quantities of drinking water.
Do you know that the Multi-Use Platform on Oinoussess will produce electricity and desalinated fresh water to yachts for tourism and local fishing boats? Find out how in our public discussions: Oinousses and Chios, 14 October 2020.
As part of the MUSICA Project activities, several workshops are planned for key MUSICA stakeholders covering MUP and Smart Island topics.
We are delighted to announce the date of our first opportunity to share MUSICA’s aims and progress to the public.
This event will inform islanders about how renewable energy, desalination and aquaculture can work together on one multiple-use platform. At the same time, guided activities will give participants a forum to discuss these topics; ask questions from MUSICA leadership; present ideas and concerns.

Due to COVID uncertainties, a public session in Chios has been organised as a live online event.
Input from community representatives in Chios and Oinousses—along with local authority, industry and research institutions—is vital to realising MUSICA’s ambitions to demonstrate how the needs of small islands everywhere (clean energy, fresh water, food, and employment) can be addressed through renewable technology using local resources. The event’s key purpose is to build links between different stakeholders and involve local people at an early stage in the Project.
What we learn from each other will be shared on our website where the discussion can continue. Feedback will help us create follow-on workshops that will bring these same groups together to report on MUSICA progress and provide education and training around its benefits.
