“The Geoeconomic Footprint of Blue Economy in Remote Island Development” – Oinousses, Greece

On May 28th, 2025, the island of Oinousses (Chios) hosted a successful event entitled “The Geoeconomic Footprint of Blue Economy in Remote Island Development”, held at the Maria Lemos Hall (SFO).

The event aimed to inform local residents and students about the opportunities offered by the Blue Economy and the role of emerging technologies in the sustainable development of small, remote islands — with particular emphasis on the EU-funded MUSICA project (Horizon 2020, Grant No. 862252).

Key presentations included:
Dr. Theodoros Lillas, University of the Aegean:
“Development in Remote Areas and the Blue Economy”, with reference to MUSICA’s technological applications.

Dr. Ioannis Papafloratos, Legal Scholar:
“The Legal Status of the Central Aegean Islands in Today’s Geopolitical Context.”

Dr. Spyros Belegratis, Major General (ret.) and President of SEEHA:
“Remote Area Development and Technology Transfer Opportunities.”

Dr. Ioannis Dagkinis, University of the Aegean:
“Exploiting Renewable Energy and Maritime Technologies for Island Sustainability.”

The session concluded with an open Q&A and discussion with the audience.
