Ocean energy: The next big thing in energy

Ocean energy: The next big thing in energy

on March 31, 2020

The oceans are the world’s largest untapped source of renewable energy. Tidal stream technologies, wave energy converters and ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) are all types of ocean energy. Ocean energy technologies – wave, tidal and ocean thermal energy conversion – convert the power in our seas to produce electricity. Ocean energy can provide 10% of Europe’s current electricity needs by 2050 and is all set to become a new European industry. That’s enough to power 94 million households per year.

100GW of ocean energy in Europe by 2050 will have huge economic benefits.
